The Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall, at the time 155 km long, is the most striking symbol of a Europe divided by the Iron Curtain. Three places are still filled with emotion today. All of them are must-sees and allow us to retrace the history of Berlin and Germany. The Berlin Wall Memorial This memorial is the last surviving section of the Berlin Wall in its entirety. Along its 1.4 km length, the inner wall, the parapet walk, the lighting pylons, the no man's land, the signal fence and the outer wall are still present. You can get there in 35 minutes by the Berlin city express train, S-Bahn (line S5 or S7) and then by tram (line M10) from our apart hotel in Berlin.  The East Side Gallery  For a more playful visit, we recommend the East Side Gallery. 118 artists from 21 different countries have made a section of the wall, 1.3 km long, the largest open-air gallery in the world. Make your way there in 45 minutes by the Berlin urban express train S-Bahn (line S5) or by subway U-Bahn (line U7 then U3) then bus (line 300) from our serviced residence in Berlin.  Checkpoint Charlie From 1961 to 1990, the Wall at this checkpoint included one of the three border posts intended for the passage of diplomats, foreigners, journalists and soldiers. Today, only an installation by the artist Frank Thiel and a panel recalling the former border post remain. Nevertheless, the emotion is still very strong.  In the immediate vicinity is the Wall Museum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie. Many original and creative objects used by the fugitives to leave the GDR are displayed there.  The museum can be reached in 25 minutes by subway, U-Bahn (line U1 then U6) or 30 minutes by tram (line M29) from our apart hotel in Berlin. The Brandenburg Gate  It is impossible to leave Berlin without strolling around the Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin's former gateways. Inspired by the Acropolis of Athens, it was inaugurated in 1791.  Having been in no man's land for 30 years, it is more than a monument of stone, it is a symbol of Berlin's unity.
